MCBAGS: FOR WHEN SHTF
Pack your McBags. Or when Shit Hits The Fan you'll wish you had.
M: Monero
C: Cash
B: Bitcoin
A: Ammo
G: Gold (& Guns)
S: Silver
Arguments for holding each of these assets in a "Shit Hits The Fan" (SHTF) scenario:
Monero (XMR):
- Private cryptocurrency. Perfect for any black/gray market or peer-to-peer transaction with other tech-savvy and privacy-focused individuals. More private than bitcoin.
- Works over any distance as it is digital, as long as you can access the internet.
- TIP: Run your own node and make payments over TOR as much as possible.
Cash:
- Cash is King, as they say. Accepted everywhere by pretty much everyone. It might even work for a while if the USG goes belly-up.
- TIP: Have a mix of 10s, 20s and 100s.
Bitcoin (BTC):
- Good for peer-to-peer digital payments in small to large amounts where privacy is not an absolute necessity (transparent ledger and all that).
- Works over any distance as it is digital, as long as you can access the internet.
- TIP: Run your own node and make payments over TOR as much as possible.
Ammo:
- Can be used for self-defense or for barter.
- TIP: Hold common calibers: .22 LR, 9mm, 12-gauge, or common rifle calibers like .223.
Gold (& Guns):
- Good for large, private payments between individuals who don't trust technology, banks or governments.
- Maintains its purchasing power over time.
- TIP: Have a mix of 1/4, 1/2 and 1 ounce gold coins.
- TIP: Pack at least one Gun with some Gold in a Locking Gun Case so you are ready to Go.
Silver:
- Good for smaller, private payments between sovereign individuals.
- Mostly maintains its purchasing power over time, but more volatile than gold.
- TIP: Have a mix of junk silver dimes/quarters, one ounce eagles/maples and (up to) ten ounce bars.
Hold a mix of the above since no one asset is perfect. Some require internet-connected, tech-savvy counterparties; others require more trust or a precious metal verifier.
All of these goods that we would hold are also tools and fuels that can be used even if we don't experience massive short-term disruptions or long-term economic chaos or collapse.
Use the tools. Be prepared.
ADDENDUM:
- Lots of other useful tools out there, of course: First-aid and Cleaning Supplies, Alcohol and Tobacco come to mind. (Mine is not meant as a comprehensive list, but as a mnemonic device to help you think about things you may have neglected.)
