Riches Do Not Endure Forever

Riches Do Not Endure Forever

What does the bible say about money, wealth and investing?

Here are a few passages I liked:

1. Spread out your bets: businesses, land, investments, charities, skill-building, etc.

Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.

Ecclesiastes 11:2 NIV

2. Be careful with leverage; build in a wide margin of safety when taking on debt

The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is slave to the lender.

Proverbs 22:7 NIV

3. Do your due diligence; reinvest profits; work hard and work smart

She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

Proverbs 31:16-18 NIV

4. Live well and always count your blessings

Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10 NIV

5. Stay organized and plan for the future

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower.
Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost

to see if you have enough money to complete it?
For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it,

everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying,
β€˜This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
Luke 14:28-30 NIV

6. Wealth is ephemeral; stay humble and live a good life

Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
do not trust your own cleverness.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

Proverbs 23:4-5 NIV

7. Protect what you have; remain vigilant

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,
give careful attention to your herds;
for riches do not endure forever,
and a crown is not secure for all generations.

Proverbs 27:23-24 NIV
